10:09am | Councilwoman and Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal is urging residents to downsize their e-waste piles, which have likely grown with the passing of the holidays, by dumping off all broken or unwanted electronic equipment at Goodwill’s E-waste Drive in the Broadway Parking Lot at the northeast corner of Broadway and Long Beach Boulevard.
E-waste includes computer monitors, towers and peripherals, TVs and big screens, DVD players, electronics, cell phones, and digital/LCD clocks. Industrial or large-scale e-waste, or household hazardous waste including fluorescent tubes or batteries, is not being accepted.
Proceeds from the event go to Goodwill’s employment programs and skills development training for individuals with barriers to employment. Cell phone donations will go to Interval House Crisis Center to help battered spouses and children.
The event, which runs from 9:00am-1:00pm, also features Goodwill’s Shred-4-Good program. The program is a way for Long Beach residents to get rid of confidential documents. The first box is free, and it’s $5 for each additional box.
