8:42am | Agents at Keller Williams Realty Los Alamitos are working to raise funds to support an 8-year-old boy with Aplastic anemia, according to agents at the office, who conduct the lion’s share of their sales in and around Long Beach.
Aplastic anemia is a rare condition where bone marrow does not produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells. It reportedly affects one in a million people.
The office is raffling off an iPad to raise funds for Kai Quinonez, the son of Gus Quinonez, an agent at the office. The boy is undergoing two six-month rounds of chemotherapy and weekly transfusions of blood. He was recently rushed to the hospital where doctors were able to stabilize him, according to Dennis Berry, a Keller Williams agent.
The condition involves both aplasia and anemia. Typically, anemia refers to low red blood cell counts, but aplastic anemia patients have lower counts of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, termed pancytopenia.
The agents have already made a contribution to his medical fund and are currently raffling off the iPad to raise more money to help the family.
