9:30am | The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Long Beach City Council will be considering the proposal for a $320 million dollar renovation project at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street, home to the dilapidated Sea Port Marina Hotel.

Supporters are claiming an increase in jobs and revenue, a particularly important point given the city’s unemployment rate of 12.7% as of last month, a full percentage point higher than the county average. Detractors, citing an environmental impact report, claim that the traffic congestion and potential pollution would be significantly detrimental to the area, particularly given its proximity to the coastline.
