9:35pm | Richard D. Steinke will receive the Connie Award, it was announced on Monday.

Steinke, set to retire this year as executive director of the Port of Long Beach, is to be presented the award for the West Coast by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute during an industry dinner on Sept. 21 at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach.

Recipients are recognized with Connie awards for exerting influence on containerization in world trade and transportation. 

Steinke has been at the Port of Long Beach for more than 14 years.

Steinke led the port as it redeveloped the former Long Beach Naval Complex and implemented a green port policy that included the Clean Trucks Program. He was instrumental in projects like the winning of approvals for the $1 billion Middle Harbor Redevelopment project and the $950 million Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement project, according to a statement by the port.
