Last summer, celebrity British chef Gordon Ramsay spent three days in Bixby Knolls, overhauling Nino’s Italian Restaurant for an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Friday night, the episode airs on FOX and Nino’s is hosting a viewing party that will include a special food menu and live music.

When Ramsay’s team came to Long Beach in July of last year, the 55 year-old restaurant was no longer the strong local favorite. Once a local bastion for Southern Italian meals, Nino’s–which touts itself as the oldest Italian restaurant in Long Beach–had operated largely unchangedfor decades and the largely negative online reviews from the last few years reflected the lackluster food that came out of its kitchen.

Ramsay changed Nino’s entire menu and re-decorated its interior, a move that polarized many longtime fans of the ristorante who voiced anger that most of the traditional pizza options and Italian dishes were now gone. Since then, Nino’s has responded to customers and reinstated some of their original menu items, though many effects of Kitchen Nightmare‘s makeover still stand.

Reservations for Friday night’s dinner viewing party are now being taken with seatings at 6PM, 6:30PM and 7PM. The episode premieres at 8PM on channel 11.The Urban Cats Blues Band will provide live music and an undisclosed “Viewing Party” menu will also be available.

Nino’s is located at 3853 Atlantic Ave.
