10:30am | The Port of Long Beach is holding a series of workshops this week for health-care groups and facilities applying for funding under the Port’s $5 million Health Care and Senior Facilities Grant Program. The first one starts today.
The three Long Beach workshops are:
- Today from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Park, 401 Golden Ave.
- Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Miller Family Health Education Center, 3820 Cherry Ave.
- Thursday, Oct. 28, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mark Twain Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St..
The program “is designed to help medical centers, senior facilities and organizations improve community health by limiting exposure to air pollution and increasing health awareness in areas of Long Beach nearest to the Port and its trade corridors,” according to a statement issued by the Port of Long Beach.
This is the second round of Port Mitigation Grant Programs. The Port is offering grants to eligible medical centers, convalescent homes and other health-care sites to reduce indoor air pollution, and health organizations and agencies are also invited to seek funding for outreach and screening programs that address respiratory and cardiopulmonary issues, according to the port.
Funding for the programs comes from port development projects. Applicants can e-mail [email protected] or call 1-888-789-GRANT (1-888-789-4726). Applications and guidelines are available at polb.com/healthgrants.
