Long Beach Transit (LBT) and Mayor Robert Garcia have invited the public to celebrate the completion of LBT’s new AquaLink water taxi dock during the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, February 23 at 11:00AM.

Located at Berth 3 at Alamitos Bay Landing adjacent to Boathouse on the Bay’s outdoor patio, the new dock was the last piece of LBT’s aquatic ADA-accessible puzzle, making LBT’s water taxi system, including six other docks and four water taxis, now fully ADA-compliant.

“The country just celebrated 25 years of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and we are proud to continue the celebration with our new dock that can now board customers in mobility devices,” stated LBT CEO, Kenneth McDonald. “We’ve been wanting to make this improvement for some time now, and with the support of the City of Long Beach, we were able to deliver.”

LBT has been operating its water taxi service since the late 1990s and has grown in popularity in recent years, carrying over 55,000 customers during its seasonal operation, starting in late spring through early fall.

With Long Beach City Council’s approval, LBT partnered with the City Manager’s office to acquire partial funding for the project through State Tidelands funds, according to the release. Customers will have the opportunity to use the new dock for the first time during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, April 16 and 17.

Along with the new dock, LBT also added a new walking pier adjacent to the landing, as well as commissioned a stunning LithoMosaic artwork from artist Robin Brailsford that was set in the pathway leading to the dock.

The new dock is located at 190 North Marina Drive.
