The Coalition for Clean Air recognized Long Beach Container Terminal last week with its top award for environmental stewardship, the environmental advocacy group announced Wednesday.

The CCA specifically acknowledged LBCT President Anthony Otto’s efforts in working toward a zero emission terminal at the Port of Long Beach (POLB), according to a press release.

“I am truly honored to have received this award on behalf of LBCT and OOCL from such a prestigious group as the CCA,” said Otto.

The LBCT was recognized for its efforts on the $1.4 billion redevelopment project, Middle Harbor, which is expected to transform two old terminal facilities into a modern, environmentally-friendly and technologically-advanced terminal, officials said.

The project will offer electrified terminal cranes, automated guided vehicles, and a state-of-the-art battery exchange building, said POLB Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Noel Hacegaba.

Other guests included Mary Nichols, executive director of the California Air Resources Board; Joe Lyou, member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District; and actor/activist Ed Begley Jr.
