Matt Plezia, a 17-year Harbor Department employee, has been named as the new Director of Master Planning for the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, the board announced today.
Plezia previously served as Acting Director of Master Planning since September, following the retirement of Director Larry Cottrill. He has worked at the Port of Long Beach since 1997 as a Trade Analyst, and in 2002 moved to planning. In April 2013, he was promoted to Manager of Master Planning.
Effective immediately, Plezia’s appointment to Director of Master Planning will put him in charge of evaluating Port land use, maintaining the Port Master Plan, preparing long-range cargo forecasts and evaluating the economic impacts of Port operations. The Master Planning Division also leads the Port’s partnership with the Long Beach Gas & Oil Department regarding oil operations in the Harbor District.
