The Port of Long Beach (POLB) saw a 9.1% dip in cargo containers for the month of August.

With 300,851 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of imports, 126,856 TEUs of exports, and 145,376 empty containers, POLB hit a grand total of 573,083 TEUs during the month. Imports marked a 8.2% decrease, while exports dropped 17.7% decline. Empty containers dropped 2%.

This year is being compared to 2013, a hard year to compete with given it was the port’s third-busiest year in its entire history, handling 6.73M TEUs in total. The August decline “reflects both early shipping by importers this year and the comparison to an August last year that was the Port’s busiest month since 2007,” said Art Wong of POLB.
