The Port of Long Beach (POLB) welcomed its busiest May since 2007 when it reached nearly 600K twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs).

With 312,439 TEUs of imports, 146,702 TEUs of exports, and 140,368 empty containers, POLB hit a grand total of 599,509 TEUs during month. Imports marked a 2.3% increase compared to last year while exports marked a 0.3% decline. Empty containers, meanwhile, rose 7.1%, bringing overall container shipment up by 2.7% compared to last month.

Across 2014, POLB has seen a modest increase of 1.3% this year compared to last, with May and April marking the only consecutive months for growth this year. Last year is a hard year to compete with, given it was the port’s third-busiest year in its entire history, handling 6.73M TEUs.
