10:30am | Critics of downtown Long Beach’s on-again, off-again renaissance on October 29th may have a legitimate gripe when they refer to the area as a “ghost town.”
Actually, it may take on more of an apocalyptic vibe than a ghost town during the Long Beach Zombie Walk Street and Music Fest slated on October 29. And if enough “zombies” show, organizers believe it could set a world record.
Organizers are calling the staging area on the Promenade between Third Street and Ocean Boulevard “Zombie Central.” The free event includes makeup artists, food, beer garden, art, vendors, live music and muralists
A separate-admission concert, “Dead Man’s After-Party,” includes a live performance by Johnny Vatos’ Tribute to Halloween, with members of Oingo Boingo. Tickets can also be purchased for $15 for the “Long Beach Comic-Con/Dead Man’s After-Party.”
To break the current Guinness World Records’ for zombies the crowd would have to best 4,093. That’s largest gathering of zombies, according to Guinness. It occurred at the New Jersey Zombie Walk in Asbury Park on October 30, 2010.
However, event organizers may want to shoot for digging up many more ghouls than that. According to Wikipedia, on July 23 The Dublin Zombie Walk in Ireland drew over 8,000 undead wannabes. Confirmation of that as a record is still pending by Guinness.
The event is being presented by Long Beach Cinematheque.
