A bystander was hospitalized Tuesday evening after being struck by stray gunfire in West Long Beach, police said.

Police said the shooting happened around 6:19 p.m. around the 1500 block of West Willow Street.

A man was arguing with a woman when he fired his weapon and accidentally struck a male bystander in the lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the bystander to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

No suspect information was available, as the shooter and woman fled before the officers arrived.

Police found evidence, including bullet casings, at the scene and say the investigation is ongoing.
