During a tearful sentencing Tuesday morning, a young girl stood in front of a judge and asked that a Carson man who sexually assaulted her while claiming to be a physical therapist be given the maximum sentence of four years.

“Jerod showed no remorse,” she said, referring to 29-year-old Jerod Curtis, who was arrested by Long Beach police in December on suspicion of multiple counts of sexual battery and sexual crimes against a minor. “Every day, I come up with more and more questions about why he would do this to me.”

The Post generally does not name victims of sexual assault.

Authorities said Curtis, who has remained jailed since his arrest, was working as a massage therapist in Long Beach when a girl contacted local police to inform them that Curtis had touched her inappropriately.

At the time, Curtis was also a suspect in at least two other sexual battery incidents dating back to July and November, according to the LBPD, which believes there are more victims.

In court today, Curtis plead no contest to three counts of sexual assault and Judge Debra A. Cole subsequently sentenced him to three years in state prison, and wished him luck given the nature of the crimes he was convicted for.

Jerod Curtis, 29, was arrested at noon on Friday, Dec. 3.

“You took advantage of these girls. They trusted you,” said Cole, who was baffled as to how Curtis could get a job as a physical therapist without having credentials—a question lawyers could not answer in court. “Frankly, I agree this isn’t enough time but this is going to punish you for a long time.”

Cole continued, giving the victim’s family a 10-year protective order against Curtis and advising him that he would have to register as a sex offender following his release from prison.

After shortly talking to his lawyer, Curtis was led back to the holding cell as Cole attempted to comfort the victim’s family one last time: “This is your closure.”
