A cement truck driver was transported to a local trauma center after his vehicle flipped on the southbound 710 Freeway near Willow Street on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel were dispatched to the scene at about 1:48PM to find an overturned cement truck at the Westbound Willow Street on ramp, said LBFD spokesperson Jake Heflin.

LBFD units began extricating the male driver, who was trapped in his truck with his leg caught, at about 2:14PM and were able to fully extricate the driver by 2:17PM.

The driver, who is approximately in his 40s, was then transported to a local trauma center in moderate condition, Heflin said.

He added that the incident also caused a leak of two gallons of hydrolic fluid and five gallons of diesel fluid on the freeway, which was being cleaned up.

A Sigalert was issued at about 2:29PM advising about the closure of the West Willow Street onramp on the 710 Freeway for 30 minutes.

CalTrans and California Highway Patrol personnel were working to turn the truck upright and remove it from the on ramp, Heflin said.
