Those living off the Southland coast may experience isolated thunderstorms and showers today and Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
“A moist and unstable air mass associated with a trough of low pressure off the California coast will bring the potential for thunderstorms to the coastal waters from this afternoon through tonight,” read the NWS statement. “Any thunderstorm that forms will be capable of producing locally gusty winds and rough seas, dangerous lightning, small hail, and heavy rainfall with reduced visibility.”
The NWS warned Mariners to find safe harbor if threatening weather ensues.
In the Los Angeles area, a slight chance of light rain this morning followed by isolated showers or thunderstorms this afternoon were reported, while the forecast for Friday shows a chance of showers and just a slight chance of thunderstorms.
The chance of significant precipitation was set at 40 percent today, 50 percent tonight, on Friday during the day and 30 percent at night. Cloudy skies are expected to last today through Friday.
A weather service statement blamed an upper-level low pressure system for the “extended period of unsettled weather.”
The NWS forecasted a mix of rain, showers and cloudy skies today, along with highs of 65 in Long Beach. Similar temperatures are expected for Friday and Saturday.
