A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer remains hospitalized today with major head trauma resulting from a collision that killed a 24-year-old pedestrian in Long Beach.
A CHP spokesman said the officer was believed to be on his way to work when the crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. Sunday on Del Amo Boulevard, west of Cherry Avenue.
According to the CHP accident report, Cezannie Mount of Long Beach was crossing Del Amo outside a crosswalk when he was struck by CHP Officer Alfredo Gutierrez’s motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gutierrez was ejected from his motorcycle and was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious head injuries.
