From LBPOSTSports.com:
When we began our volleyball coverage and dubbed the Bruins, Lancers, and Jackrabbits the Triumvirate, we knew they were three very good programs—for the majority of the season, they ended up being three of the top ten teams in the CIF-SS rankings. But still, we didn’t imagine that on Thursday night, in the second round of the CIF playoffs, all three teams would not only be playing matches, but hosting them as well. It was a wild night, so be sure to check out the stories linked below.
Wilson
The Bruins have been even-handed and consistent all season, but they got their boat rocked a little last night by the Palos Verdes Sea Kings (or is that Queens). Still, they took a four-set victory, and advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal match against Newport Harbor. Click here to read the full story.
Poly
You’d be hard-pressed to find a harder way to lose than the way Poly did tonight to Orange Lutheran, in a five set thriller with a combined score of 110-104. Unfortunately, the young Jackrabbits came up on the wrong side of the fifth set, and saw their season end on their home court. Click here to read the full story.
Lakewood
We don’t have a full article on the Lancers (the whole “can’t be two places at one time” paradox), but we sure wish we did, after Lakewood came up on the right side of the fifth set, pulling off the to-the-wire victory over visiting Harvard-Westlake, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 15-13. The Lancers will face a dominant Santa Margarita team in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
