California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced a $400,000 California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention grant to be given to Long Beach.  The city also received another $400,000 grant for Centro CHA (Community Hispanic Association), a local non-profit helping kids involved with or in danger of being involved with gangs.

The City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program, the Long Beach Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Task Force, the Police and Health and Human Services departments, the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, Centro CHA, Long Beach City College and Long Beach Unified School District Regional Occupation Program all worked together to earn the grants.

“These grants totaling nearly $800,000 will bring together existing public resources and unite them in a community partnership that will provide our youth with alternatives to gangs and reduce the root causes of gang violence,” said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster.
