Long Beach City Clerk Larry Herrera will request authorization from the City Council on Tuesday, September 8 to conduct the election for the vacant LBUSD Board of Education seat during a special election on December 29, 2009. The seat was vacated by Michael Ellis who resigned August 6, 2009 after missing nearly three months of meetings and following a District Weekly report about a warrant out for Ellis’ arrest following a probation violation.

The winner of the special election will hold the seat until the term expires on July 19, 2010. The Clerk estimates the cost of the election, to be reimbursed to the City by LBUSD, to be between $219,295 and $235,832.
