In an effort to raise awareness regarding disabilities that often add challenges to people’s lives all over Long Beach and the world, the City of Long Beach and the Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACoD) has planned on October Disability Awareness Month event—inviting one and all.
Kicking off on Thursday, October 27 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the Main Library Auditorium and Lower Lobby, located at 101 Pacific Avenue, the celebration will feature a 30 minute program that promotes inclusion and celebrates diversity in the workplace.
“Disability Employment Awareness Month is an important time to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “Everyone should have the opportunity to use their talents and contribute to their workplace.
Several agencies that aim to help people and their families will be present at the event, including Long Beach Public Library’s Information Center for People with Disabilities; Department of Public Works; Long Beach Housing Authority; Fair Housing Foundation; Disabled Resource Center; Braille Institute; Pools of Hope; Californians for Disability Rights; Access Services; and Associated Students Inc. CSULB.
