1:01pm | The city of Long Beach announced Thursday that a slew of renovation and beautification projects along the peninsula are now complete.
According to information provided by City Hall, the improvements include the installation of drinking fountains and lighting, as well as renovation work on the restroom at the end of the peninsula, which is now in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act. Landscaping improvements round out the recently finished enhancements.
City officials said the peninsula will be open to the public beginning Saturday, April 23 — just in time for Easter.
The upgrades also include several new walkways that provide accessible routes from the beach and parking lot to the new facilities on the ocean side of the road at 72 Place.
“Investing in our city’s infrastructure is important for the future of our city,” said Councilman Gary DeLong in a statement. “Our residents deserve a high level of service.”
The preservation of the building’s classic Spanish architecture was a high priority for the project, as was the use of existing palm trees and as much of the existing landscaping as possible. according to City Hall.
