3:46pm | No matter how you feel about the state of cycling in Long Beach, the year 2010 was certainly a big one for two-wheelers in the city (and the news isn’t slowing down in 2011). To recap a long list of achievements, projects and awards, the City of Long Beach today released their 2010 Bike Long Beach Year In Review. Click here to download it. Some of the achievements listed in the report are below:
- Completion of Vista Street Bike Boulevard
- Bicycling Magazine named Long Beach the country’s 23rd best bike city (highest in California)
- Sharrows lane in Belmont Shore received national awarded
- New bike corrals in East Village and upper Pine Avenue with more coming
- Construction of new Bikestation on Promenade
- Construction of protected bike lanes on Broadway and 3rd
- Began plans to add bike lanes on PCH from the Traffic Circle to Orange County
- Twenty new miles of bikeways citywide
- Repaved trail along the Los Angeles River
- Implemented youth bike safety education classes
- More than 7,000 people participated in 2010 LB Bike Festical
- More than 1,200 people participated in inaugural Tour of Long Beach which raised $65k
