The community is invited to join the City of Long Beach and the Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACoD) in a celebration to recognize October as Disability Employment Awareness Month.

“Together we can help remove employment barriers, which will improve the lives and livelihoods of many of our neighbors who want nothing more than to use their skills in the workplace,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement.

Agencies who work with people with disabilities will be at the celebration to answer questions and provide more information. These agencies will include: Long Beach Public Library’s Information Center for People with Disabilities; Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network; VA Long Beach Healthcare System; Braille Institute; Ability First; Californians for Disability Rights; Long Beach Mental Health, Social Security Administration; Long Beach Transit; PathPoint and Disabled Resources Center.

The City of Long Beach intends to provide reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The celebratory and informational event will be held on Wednesday, October 22 from noon to 3PM at the Long Beach Civic Center’s Centennial Plaza. For more information, or to request a special accommodation, please call Katherine Bussi at (562) 570-6803. The Long Beach Civic Center’s Centennial Plaza is located at 333 W.
