In a closed session before the Long Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday, Acting City Attorney Charles Parkin was selected to stay in his role until next year.

Parkin beat out four others who submitted applications to serve out the remainder of the city attorney’s term, which will end in July 2014. He has been acting city attorney since July 2 when longtime City Attorney Robert Shannon retired.

No one has yet filed to run for city attorney in next April’s primary election, but it is expected Parkin will run as an incumbent.
