Long Beach City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to appoint the City’s former finance director, Lori Ann Farrell, to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, filling one of the body’s two current vacancies.

Farrell will replace Commissioner Nick Sramek who resigned November 19, just days after City Council voted 6-3 to remove the Board’s president Thomas Fields. Mayor Bob Foster announced Farrell’s appointment November 25, but has not yet chosen a replacement for Fields, who was ousted two years before the end of his term.

Foster expanded on his decision to appoint Farrell at Tuesday’s meeting, noting that she is no stranger to working with the City of Long Beach. Besides her previous position as Chief Financial Officer for the City, the 5th District resident also served for five years as City Controller. She currently serves on the Long Beach Transit (LBT) board as Secretary/Treasurer and is the Director of Finance for the City of Huntington Beach.

Farrell will serve a six-year term.
