Councilmember Dee Andrews will award six residents for being “Martin Luther King, J. Peace Makers” on January 6.
Each candidate was chosen based on how active they are with volunteering in the community, as well as promoting messages of engagement, nonviolence and unity.
“The City of Long Beach values diversity and multiculturalism. We must continue spreading Dr. King’s message among our neighbors, especially our youth”, said Councilmember Dee Andrews. “I am truly amazed at the work that this years’ honoree’s continue to do in our great City.”
This year’s honorees include Community Youth Honoree – Nancy Torres, Community Male Honoree – Gregory Sanders, Community Female Honoree- Sister Gerard Earls, Community Group Honoree- Friends of Alice Robinson, Community Corporation Honoree- Port of Long Beach, Community Business Honoree- The Long Beach hotels and businesses serving Thanksgiving meals at “Serving With A Thankful Heart” Thanksgiving Banquet, Hilton Long Beach, Hyatt The Pike Long Beach, Hotel Maya, Renaissance Long Beach Hotel, The Westin Long Beach, Marriott Courtyard Long Beach, Double Tree by Hilton Hotel San Pedro, Long Beach Convention & Business Bureau, and Long Beach Yellow Cab Company.
The award ceremony, which will be held January 6 at 5:00PM at the Long Beach city council meeting, takes place as part of Peace Week, a week-long celebration leading up to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace & Unity Parade Celebration on January 17.
