Starting today, 2nd District Councilwoman Jeannine Pearce will be made more accessible to constituents with the opening of her new field office in the community center at Bixby Park.

The new office, which will be open today during the bi-weekly Farmer’s Market from 3:00PM to 7:00PM, will serve two purposes: to increase public safety at one of the most used parks in the 2nd District and to allow Pearce and her staff to be more accessible to residents on the East Side of the district, her office announced yesterday.

The field office will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00AM to 5:00PM and Saturdays by appointment. The field office phone number is (562) 570-2221.

With this office, Pearce’s staff will be able to better monitor the park and its facilities and her field deputy will be in the field more to report illegally dumped items, graffiti, broken curbs, potholes and other public works issues, Pearce’s office stated.

“The Second District is diverse, and my constituents on its eastern end deserve to have access to my office,” Pearce said in a statement. “I know how important access is, and I don’t want to be up in some ivory tower making decisions that affect everyday lives of the 2nd District’s residents.”

Pearce’s office also stated that the efforts will help with the Long Beach Police Department’s Crime Prevention Strategies it has already rolled out, including “changing the locks on bathroom doors to be tamper resistant,” according to LBPD Commander Liz Griffin.

According to Griffin, Quality of Life officers are also conducting extensive “outreach efforts to address homelessness” in the area as Pearce’s office continues to activate the park.

These efforts include securing better lighting around the bathrooms and constant monitoring by Pearce’s staff, her office stated.
