City officials have invited the public for input on Long Beach’s Sustainable City Action Plan (SCAP) priorities for the next year at an upcoming Sustainable City Commission meeting, set to occur Thursday, August 25 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM in the Long Beach City Council Chamber.

Input is also possible through the Speak Up, Long Beach! online platform, according to a release issued today. 

“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to contribute to the City’s sustainability plans for the coming year,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “Collaboration between the Sustainable City Commission and the community helps prioritize actions to continue creating a more livable Long Beach.”

 

“Community involvement in this process is important in ensuring Long Beach is taking the right actions to continue its path toward becoming an even more sustainable city,” said Sustainability Coordinator Larry Rich in a statement.

The city’s first Sustainable City Action Plan (SCAP) was adopted by the Long Beach City Council in 2010, just after the city created its own Office of Sustainability. The SCAP was created to guide operational, policy and financial decisions to create a more sustainable Long Beach, according to the release.

The SCAP focuses on key areas that include buildings and neighborhoods, energy, green economy and lifestyle, transportation, urban nature, waste reduction and water, according to the release.
