Jeannine Pearce

Jeannine Pearce, outgoing 2nd District council member, is hosting the kickoff of a large tree-planting project in the district to fill the area’s 2,300 empty tree wells as the final event of her tenure today, Thursday, at 7 p.m.

“Trees have shown to help reduce pollution, beautify our neighborhoods, and build a community,” said Pearce in a statement.

To launch the program, Pearce and others, including incoming 2nd District Councilwoman Cindy Allen, will be discussing how volunteers can participate in the project as well as the progress and future of the district, which includes Alamitos Beach, Bluff Heights, the East Village and coastal Downtown.

The virtual event will include guest speakers, including Mayor Robert Garcia and Sen. Lena Gonzalez and live performances by Shy But Flyy, Jim Fisk Jazztet and Alyssandra Nighswonger.

Guests are encouraged to order take-out and drinks from the district’s many restaurants, including The Ordinarie, Ellie’s and the Social List.
