The public is invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of incoming Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Chief Robert G. Luna tomorrow, officials said.
Luna, the 26th Chief of Police of the LBPD and the department’s first Latino chief, will be sworn in at noon in the Long Beach Arena Lobby, said City Manager Pat West.
“Chief Luna’s dedication to the Police Department and the entire community is impressive,” City Manager Pat West said in a statement. “I am positive that he will hold himself and the Police Department to the highest standards, and I look forward to celebrating his appointment.”
Luna was appointed chief by West on November 11. Luna currently serves as deputy chief in charge of patrol since 2006 and previously served as Patrol Bureau Deputy Chief.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to give back and serve the community that has given so much to me,” Luna said in a statement. “The community is our greatest asset, and I want to make clear the Police Department will be as visible, accessible, responsive and transparent as possible. I look forward to being sworn in with my family, friends, colleagues and the community present.”
Luna will be replacing Chief Jim McDonnell, who has been elected Sheriff of Los Angeles County.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at noon, with a reception to follow, in the Long Beach Arena Lobby, located at 300 E. Ocean Boulevard. Admission is free, and parking will be available in the arena parking structure off Seaside Way and Hart Place.
