CSULB classes are canceled today and Thursday, while classes at LBCC are canceled today but should remain open on Thursday.

The CSULB campus has experienced some flooding and the streets surrounding the campus have experienced extreme flooding. In an e-mail to all students, CSULB President F. King Alexander said:

Due to reports of severe storms expected later today and tomorrow, California State University, Long Beach will be closed for classes and business as of 3 p.m. today, January 20, 2010, continuing through tomorrow, Thursday. The determination to close the university was made because of the impact of flooding on campus and in surrounding areas in yesterday’s storm, very dangerous road conditions, and because more extreme weather is expected today and tomorrow. The campus will reopen on Friday.

The LBCC campus has experienced only light flooding but the surrounding streets have been heavily affected. LBCC President Eloy Oakley said in an e-mail:

The college has experienced heavy rainfall recently. Although the campuses have only experienced minor flooding, the roads leading to/from both campuses have been impacted. Therefore, the college (both the LAC and PCC campuses) will close as of 5:00 p.m. today. We anticipate the college to be open tomorrow.
