5:25am | Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, in collaboration with Long Beach Police Department, The Center Long Beach, and other community partners will host a Hate Crimes Community Forum this Sunday, November 6, from 3:00pm to 5:00 pm. The forum will take place in Bixby Park, in front of the band shell, near Broadway and Cherry Avenue.

The forum is planned in response to recent hate crimes. Monday night, Long Beach Police arrested and booked two men for assault with a deadly weapon. The assailants attacked two men in front of The Center, while using derogatory language.

According to a press release from the Vice-Mayor’s office, this community forum will be “a dialogue with partners such as LBPD, The Center, businesses and residents to determine our roles and responsibilities as individuals and groups to protect our community.”
