Located in central Long Beach, the city’s new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station is now open, providing a source of clean fuel to dozens of city trucks and sweepers, city officials announced today.

The fueling station was developed by TruStar Energy which was contracted by the city to build and maintain the facility, which is located at the Temple/Willow Yard at 2600 Temple Avenue.

“By powering fleets with renewable fuels, the City is looking at a potential reduction of more than 7,700 tons of carbon emissions per year,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “Long Beach remains a committed leader in its efforts to ensure a zero emissions future.”

The CNG time-fill fueling station includes fully-integrated fuel compression equipment, backup power and a time-fill dispensing system capable of providing a 10-hour time-fill (slow-fill) capacity for 80 trucks and 20 sweepers andenabling them to refuel overnight and be ready to provide services to residents the next day, a city release stated.

In 2016, the city’s fleet was recognized as one of the top 10 fleets in the nation by Government Fleet magazine and was ranked a Top 50 Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking magazine.
