10:20am | Construction continues along 2nd Street in Belmont Shore, one of Long Beach’s most heavily used roadways. The next phase is for construction crews to begin asphalt paving, according to a recent press release.
Today, median islands along 2nd Street will receive base course asphalt and beginning next Monday, crews will post No Parking signs along the street because the parking lane, bike lane and parts of the Number 2 lanes headed eastbound will be ground down. The work will occur largely between The Toledo and Naples Plaza. You do not want your car there when that happens.
That construction is expected to finish next Thursday, but the street may not open up to normal for some time. The asphalt paving phase will cause 2nd Street to be restricted to one lane in each direction during day and night. The improvement project is expected to be completed when a rubberized asphalt finish is placed in mid-August, leaving the Shore with new and long-lasting streets.
Heavy traffic delays have been in effect for weeks and will not be going away anytime soon.
