Writers from all around Long Beach, mount up!
Local website EverythingLongBeach.com has announced an essay contest that offers hundreds of dollars in prizes and gift certificates for writers inspired by the city’s neighborhoods. A winner will be selected from each of the neighborhoods specified by the website, and one grand prize winner will receive $100 cash.
The real winners? Long Beach readers, because it can often be difficult to find quality literature about the city and its rich neighborhoods, even though you can’t throw a book without hitting a talented local writer. These authors need more exposure, and they deserve a chance to shine. Writers of all ages can enter the contest, which requires a length of just 300-500 words. You can submit your essay anytime between now and October 2.
Here’s the guideline from the contest webpage:
Write a short essay that describes any Long Beach neighborhood and its unique characteristics. Neighborhood essays might include a description of the area’s residents, architectural characteristics, business or shopping districts, historic sites, community activities, cultural celebrations, urban legends or any other interesting features.
