As we reported last week, the Queen Mary is behind on an obligation it made to the City to spend a certain amount on improvements to the ship, according to a report from City Auditor Laura Doud. Tonight, the City Council will be presented with that report and comment. As always, City Council meetings are available to watch online by clicking here. It will begin at 5:00pm.

Paul Eakins of the Press-Telegram previews tonight’s meeting in this article. Among the more noteworthy items are a vote to contribute $37,000 to the LBUSD to keep after-school programs alive, and several items that would either keep workforce-related programs in operation or increase employment opportunities – an important issue for a city that recently reached a 12.5% unemployment rate.

While the Council will discuss a slew of possible funding items tonight, but many throughout the city are already focused on what may be discussed in late July. That’s when the Parks & Recreation Department will likely present a plan to allow the sale of alcohol in neighborhood parks, with the goal of increasing revenue. The Press-Telegram‘s Andrew Shortfall highlights the issue here.
