11:15am | Councilmember Dee Andrews, 6th District, and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) will be a hosting a celebration of Wrigley Village Streetscape Improvements at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 18, at the Wrigley Village Community Garden, 2044 Pacific Ave.
The recent streetscape enhancements, a collaboration between the RDA and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, include pedestrian lighting, drought-tolerant landscaped medians with decorative boulders, painted utility boxes and neighborhood street banners along Pacific Avenue, from Pacific Coast Highway to Willow Street. They are part of the effort to create an attractive pedestrian friendly environment and continue the revitalization of the neighborhood shopping district.
The landscaped improvements were designed by Katherine Spitz and Associates, and the street banners and utility boxes were designed and painted with artwork by Ioana Urma.
“These improvements are helping one of our oldest established neighborhoods to become a more attractive place to shop and do business,” said Mayor Bob Foster. “This is another prime example of how the RDA works directly with the community to identify solutions to address the needs of residents and business owners.”
The streetscape improvements are part of the Wrigley Village Streetscape Enhancement Plan, created through a community visioning process with the Central Project Area Committee and local neighborhood associations. The plan outlines goals for a program of streetscape improvements for the area.
“The 6th District residents living in Wrigley Village have long taken pride in their neighborhood,” said Councilman Dee Andrews, 6th District. “We are grateful to RDA for their work on wonderful neighborhood focused revitalization projects such as this that give the community even more to be proud of.”
