Second District Councilmember Jeannine Pearce has invited the community to a Thanksgiving meal at Iglesia Cristiana Emanuel on Saturday from 10:00AM to noon. Food will be provided at the free event and turkeys will be given out.

“Breaking bread together helps build strong communities while also supporting families in need by providing them with food to put on the table during this holiday season,” said Pearce. “Hosting this event is important to me as the Councilmember of the Second District where there is a seven-year difference in life expectancy between [its] two zip codes[…]”

While food will be provided, attendees are also encouraged to bring food for others, as well, in an effort to both create community and provide for the community. Before Pearce’s election to city council she participated in similar community oriented Thanksgiving events, and wanted to pay it forward as a recently elected member, she said. The council member is also considering making this an annual event.

“We know that poverty is an ongoing issue in Long Beach that doesn’t just happen during the holiday season, which is why we are working to promote programs like this throughout the year, while also looking at policy which uplifts working families throughout the city,” said Pearce. “Every dollar counts for those in need and I am proud to be a partner in these efforts.”
