10:51am | Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell has announced that a Dog Park is planned for a portion of the Fourth Council District, north of Willow Street near the El Dorado Nature Center.

“I am thrilled that this concept will be moving forward, and am very supportive of the park and Friends of El Dorado Dog Park,” O’Donnell said.  “I look forward to bringing this amenity to the El Dorado Park area, and to welcoming new visitors.”

The future park had been proposed by Friends of El Dorado Dog Park, who are seeking a 3 to 4 acre off-leash dog park. The group has committed to fund-raise for the cost of the park and amenities for its four-legged guests.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will place the site designation on the Parks and Recreation Commission agenda on November 10.

The site for the proposed space had long been up for debate and was one of the last details needed in order to move forward with a plan to bring a dog park to El Dorado Park. The location of the Dog Park requires the approval of the Parks and Recreation Commission.

O’Donnell plans to hold a community stakeholders meeting on the proposed site prior to the Commission meeting.  “Let’s Meet for the Mutts” will take place on Sunday, November 6 at 10:00am.  The proposed site can be accessed through the entrance to the El Dorado Nature Center, near 7600 E. Spring St. Meeting attendees are welcome to bring their dogs.  Light refreshments will be provided.

O’Donnell is also kicking-off a support drive for the El Dorado Dog Park.  Residents can sign on to support the dog park by texting ODONNELL to 22828 (standard text messaging rates apply) or e-mail their messages of support to [email protected].
