1:50pm | First District Councilmember Robert Garcia will be presenting the Second Annual State of the First District, along with his “Go Long Beach Awards”, this Tuesday, October 25 at 6:00pm at the Jenny Oropeza Community Center, 401 Golden Avenue.

The State of the First District is a presentation by Garcia about upcoming projects and progress from the past year in the First District, including updates on recent community accomplishments, and discussion about new developments, parks, and infrastructure projects.

In addition, local community leaders and organizations will be honored with the “Go Long Beach Awards”. These awards are being given out to individuals who have made an impact for the First District and our City, including neighborhood volunteers, private and public sector leaders, businesspeople, and City employees.

Some of the honorees include Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, the C.A.R.E. Program at St. Mary’s Hospital, and local community leaders like Former Councilman Mike Donelon and long-time Downtown leader Don Darnauer.

“This is a terrific chance to meet your neighbors and learn what is happening in your community” said Garcia in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to seeing old friends and getting to know more residents.”

After the presentation, there will be time to mingle and meet with neighbors, awardees, and the Councilmember and his staff. Complimentary refreshments will be available from select First District businesses including La Traviata, Kress Market, 757 Pine Bakery, Titi’s Ice Cream, and the new Shortin Bakery.

The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP by this Friday, October 21 at 4:00pm to (562) 570 6919 or [email protected].
