Two Long Beach City Councilmembers are asking the City Manager to immediately make funds available to fix dangerous potholes in roads after nearly a week of strong rainstorms have worsened street conditions.
Councilmembers Patrick O’Donnell (4th District) and Gerrie Schipske (5th District) are making the request in anticipation of a coming backlog of needed pothole repairs.
“Recent storm activity has resulted in numerous potholes across our city,” reads a memo written by O’Donnell and Schipske.
“It is likely that the severity of the recent storms will create a significant backlog of pothole repair requests, resulting in a major safety issue for motorists. We are aware that Public Works maintains an aggressive program to address the pothole repair needs across our city; however, we are concerned that the recent storm activity will create a significant backlog in the pothole repair effort and request that adequate resources be identified and immediately directed to ensure potholes across the city are addressed in a timely fashion and that no significant backlog be created.”
