10:45am | Long Beach City Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske resigned this week as the Executive Director of the Orange County Democratic Party to accept a teaching position at California State University, Long Beach according to an email obtained by the Long Beach Post from party chairman Frank Barbaro.
According to the email from Chairman Barbaro: “Under Gerrie’s leadership DPOC held a very successful Truman Awards Dinner featuring Congressman Barney Frank and built a robust summer intern program in which more than 30 college students completed detailed research of each city in the County. She implemented an on line OC Democrat Endorsement slate in the last election and made certain DPOC had a strong volunteer presence in the coordinated campaign efforts fort 2010. She also arranged to have Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones at a successful DPOC spring fund raiser. I greatly appreciate Gerrie’s dedication and hard work and wish her every success in her current and future endeavors.”
In March 2010 during her campaign for reelection to the Long Beach CIty Council, Schipske defended her role with the Orange County organization stating that her future duties with the OC Democratic Party would not interfere with her current Council position.
