Los Angeles County officials announced a vaccine trial in the county and asked residents to consider volunteering for it Wednesday afternoon.

The phase three study site is funded by the US National Institute of Health and run by the Lundquist Institute at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, Christina Ghaly, county health services director said.

Officials said their focus is enrolling people from diverse communities most affected by the virus.

“This is very very important,” Ghaly said. “We need broad representation of the populations that are most impacted by COVID and have the most benefit to gain from a potential vaccine so that we can ensure that an eventual vaccine, once it is approved by the FDA, is truly able to help those who need it.”

The new vaccine was developed by Oxford University and AstraZenaca, according to the website. People can visit the website to learn more and sign up.
