A 14-year-old boy was shot when an argument erupted on a bus in North Long Beach Friday evening, according to police, who said the boy is expected to survive.

The police said the boy was riding a Long Beach Transit bus on Long Beach Boulevard near the Los Angeles River when three other boys entered and started an argument with him and his friends at around 6:20 p.m. The argument turned into a fight and one of the suspects shot the 14-year-old before the suspects fled the scene, police said.

The 14-year-old was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body, police said.

Information about the suspects and a motive for the shooting is still under investigation, the department said.
