A 17-year-old boy told Long Beach police he was walking in the riverbed of the Los Angeles River when he was struck by gunfire Sunday.
Police said they learned of the shooting around 5:49 p.m. when they were called to a local hospital where the teenager went after being wounded.
“The victim stated he was walking in an unknown area of the Los Angeles Riverbed when he heard a loud noise that he believed to be a gunshot and was struck in the lower body,” police said.
Police said officers went to the river but weren’t able to find the crime scene.
It’s not clear if the teen was the intended target. Police said they’re still trying to gather suspect information and determine a motive.
