A fight between brothers escalated into a stabbing late Friday night, leaving one brother dead and the other in jail on $1 million bail.

According to police, 20 year-old Long Beach resident Geovany Ortiz, was stabbed by his brother, 22 year-old Israel Ortiz, after the two got into an argument. The victim was transported to the hospital at around midnight on Saturday where employees notified the Long Beach Police Department of a possible stabbing. It is unknown why the stabbing was not reported sooner.

The stabbing is believed to have occurred in the area of Elm Ave. and Louise St. in North Long Beach, where officers found Israel Ortiz was found nearby. He was taken into custody and booked for murder.

The reason for the argument or how many times Geovany was stabbed is unknown. The alleged location of the stabbing is two blocks from where a shooting in front of a residence left one dead and another injured in March.
