21-year-old Long Beach resident Jamar Welch was arrested this past Sunday by Long Beach Police officers in connection with murder of 25-year-old Alexander Johnson III, also of Long Beach.
On July 18, police officers arrived in South Wrigley to discover Johnson critically wounded, having been struck multiple times by gunfire in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.
Welch, who detectives believe murdered Johnson, was arrested near the 300 block of Lime Avenue. Long Beach detectives presented their case on July 29 to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Welch has been charged with murder and weapon charges with gang enhancements, LBPD officials said today. His bail is set at $1M.
