Police say a man died in downtown Long Beach after being struck by three separate vehicles, none of which stopped after hitting him.
It happened at about 11:45 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Golden Avenue, just east of the exit of the 710 Freeway, according to Long Beach police.
Police said a black vehicle was traveling eastbound in the middle lane on Ocean Boulevard when it struck the man, who was crossing northbound outside of a crosswalk just west of Golden Avenue, police said.
The black vehicle kept heading eastbound, police said. The man was then struck by two more vehicles that didn’t stop: a white truck and a red sedan.
The man died at the scene. His name and age were withheld pending family notification.
Monday night’s crash was the 23rd fatal traffic collision of the year. At this time last year, Long Beach had recorded 28 deadly crashes, which led to the city’s highest total for a year in more than a decade.
