Two teenagers and one adult were shot Thursday just before 4:40 p.m. near Eighth Street and Chestnut Avenue, police said.

Few details were immediately available, but spokesman Brandon Fahey said the preliminary investigation suggests the victims were standing outside on a sidewalk when an unknown person opened fire on them.

Neighbors said they heard about six shots and then police cars arrive shortly after.

Police blocked off Chestnut Avenue at Eighth Street to Seventh Street and part of an alleyway called Del Ray Court. Chestnut Market on Eighth Street remained busy as police investigated the area just past its front door.

Paramedics took the victims to local hospitals, but it’s unclear what condition they are in. One witness said one of the victims is his 16-year-old brother and that he was OK, but didn’t want to talk further.

Police don’t yet know the motive for the shooting but have detained potential suspects and are still investigating.
